The Ormond Residence
The Ormond Residence is a contemporary family home designed to feel both refined and highly detailed, while remaining warm, comfortable and genuinely liveable. Grounded in a palette of natural materials, layered textures and soft neutrals, the home embraces a timeless aesthetic that moves beyond trends.
A strong focus on craftsmanship and custom detailing - from the sculptural staircase to bespoke joinery and the considered mix of stone, timber and metal finishes - brings depth and cohesion to the design, balancing architectural form with softer, inviting interior elements.
We spoke with Ashleigh Alesi from Alesi Group about their vision, material choices, and the role Bremworth wool carpet played in bringing the home to life.

What were the key design goals for this residence, and how did the carpet play a role in bringing this to life?
One of the key design goals was to create a sense of warmth and softness within a contemporary architectural shell. While the home incorporates strong forms and luxurious finishes, it was important that the interiors still felt comfortable and welcoming for everyday family living.
Carpet played a significant role in achieving this balance. We used carpet to soften the spaces visually and acoustically, while also introducing texture and tactility throughout the private zones of the home. The wool carpet added a sense of understated luxury and helped create a more grounded, relaxed atmosphere that complemented the natural material palette used across the project.
It was also very important for us to incorporate natural materials throughout the home wherever possible, particularly in spaces used by the children and family on a daily basis. Selecting a natural wool carpet aligned with both our sustainability values and our focus on creating a healthier, more comfortable environment for family living.
Why did you choose Bremworth’s The Hamptons wool carpet for this project?
We selected Bremworth’s The Hamptons wool carpet because it aligned perfectly with the overall design vision for the residence. The texture, tonal variation and natural appearance worked beautifully with the layered palette of timber, natural stone and brushed metal finishes used throughout the home.
We were particularly drawn to the softness and richness that 100% New Zealand wool brings to a space. The Hamptons range offers a refined, elevated look while still feeling durable and practical for family living. Its natural texture added warmth and depth without overpowering the interiors, which was exactly what we wanted to achieve.
Beyond aesthetics, choosing a natural wool carpet was a very conscious decision for us. As this is a family home, it was important to select materials that felt healthier, softer and more natural for the children and everyday living. Sustainability also played a significant role in the specification process, and we loved that the carpet aligned with the broader focus on natural fibres and long-lasting materials throughout the residence.
The quality and craftsmanship of the product were also important considerations for us, particularly in a home where longevity and timelessness were prioritised.

Were there any specific challenges or considerations when selecting flooring for this space?
The flooring selections needed to feel cohesive across a large-scale home with multiple material transitions and varied lighting conditions throughout the day. It was important that the carpet complemented the architectural finishes without feeling too flat or overly textured.
Durability was another key consideration, particularly as this is a family home designed for long-term living. We wanted a product that would not only perform well over time but would also maintain a sense of luxury and comfort underfoot.
It was equally important that the flooring selection aligned with our values around sustainability and natural living. We wanted the softer areas of the home to feel warm, healthy and comfortable for the family and children, which made a natural wool carpet the ideal solution.
The natural tonal palette of The Hamptons range made it much easier to integrate with the wider material selections across the home, allowing the spaces to feel seamless and considered from room to room.
How important was sustainability in your material choices for this project?
Sustainability was a very important consideration throughout the project. Wherever possible, we prioritised natural, long-lasting materials that would age beautifully and stand the test of time both aesthetically and functionally.
We’re increasingly conscious of selecting materials that contribute to healthier living environments, particularly for family homes. Wool was a natural choice for this reason — not only because of its durability and softness, but also because it is a natural fibre that brings warmth, comfort and a more organic feel into the home. Having a natural carpet throughout the private spaces was especially important to us for the children and for creating a softer, healthier environment for everyday living.
Choosing quality materials that don’t need replacing frequently is also an important part of our design philosophy, as longevity is one of the most sustainable outcomes in residential design.
The use of natural fibres throughout the residence helped reinforce the grounded, timeless aesthetic we were aiming to achieve.
Are there any trends in interior design or flooring that you’re excited about right now?
We’re seeing a strong shift towards more tactile, layered and natural interiors, which is something we’re very excited about.
Clients are increasingly moving away from overly polished or stark spaces and embracing homes that feel warmer, softer and more connected to nature.
In flooring specifically, there’s definitely a renewed appreciation for wool carpets and natural textures. We’re seeing more designers and homeowners prioritise comfort, authenticity and material longevity over purely aesthetic trends.
Textural wool carpets in soft, earthy tones are becoming increasingly popular because they bring depth and warmth to contemporary interiors while still feeling timeless.
